Japanese Stories

Japan is a land of contrasts, a mixture of the old and the new, east and west, the traditional and the modern. It's difficult for the first time visitor to make sense of it all. Even for those who are not new to Japan, this country still has a lot to offer.

Japan is a great and so far relatively unexplored tourist destination. You can visit Japan in style and spend a fortune in the process, or you can travel Japan on the cheap and probably experience more of the true Japan. Budget travelers have often steered clear of Japan because of the expensive image it has. This is just another stereotype there is of this country. There are lots of misconceptions about Japan, and this is partly because so far relatively little has been written about it. Here east truly meets west.

Japan is unique in that you can get the convenience, the entertainment, the freedom of the western world while still enjoying the cultural and traditional aspects of life in Asia, all in one place.

In this section we aim to portray a true image of Japan and to bring you a fun, informative illustrated guide to Japan. Through our upcoming segments in "Adverntures in Japan" we'll bring you exclusive travel features from all over Japan. Our other features include a hotel reservation service, and we have lots of upcoming features including club cruising, cuisine, and culture.

"A Snake in the Shrine"
by David Geraghty

A Snake in the Shrine is an entertaining account of three years spent teaching and writing curricula in Japan. Often irreverent and humorous, the book looks at the tribulations and triumphs of daily life as a foreigner in Tokyo. The book also explores gentler aspects of Japan, looking in particular at the rural cultures that have survived the nation’s frantic modernisation. A Snake in the Shrine challenges commonly accepted views of Japan and is a book that can be enjoyed on many levels.
